"R. Riley"

THIS IS A ENGLISH WHITE DIAL LONG CASE CLOCK BY, "R. RILEY" IN BIRMINGHAM, CIRCA 1800-1840.

 

THE ARCHED PAINTED DIAL HAS A BIRD AT THE TOP CENTER AND PAINTED FLORAL CORNERS.  THERE IS A ROUND SECONDS BIT BELOW THE 12 AND A ROUND CALENDAR BIT ABOVE THE 6.  THE DIAL HAS "TUMBLING ARABIC NUMERALS" AND ARABIC 5 MINUTE OUTSIDE NUMERALS.  THE DIAL IS SIGNED "R. RILEY, BIRMINGHAM" ACROSS THE CENTER OF THE DIAL.  THE HOOD HAS LARGE TURNED COLUMNS ON EACH SIDE OF THE DOOR.

 

THE 8 DAY BRASS MOVEMENT IS DRIVEN BY 2 CAST IRON WEIGHTS AND STRIKES THE HOURS ON A BELL.  THE TRUNK AND BASE OF THE CLOCK ARE VENEERED IN FLAME MAHOGANY WITH NICE SATINWOOD BANDING INLAY.  THE TRUNK HAS CANTED CORNERS.  THE FEET ARE LONG AND TAPERED.  THERE IS A SCALLOPED SKIRT ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE BASE.

 

NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS.....

THIS CLOCK IS A MARRIAGE--THE LOWER CASE, MOVEMENT, DIAL, WEIGHTS AND PENDULUM ARE ORIGINAL BUT THE HOOD IS FROM ANOTHER CLOCK.

 

WHY??? I CAN'T TELL YOU, BUT IT IS A NICE LOOKING LONG CASE CLOCK THAT IS PRICED ACCORDINGLY.

"Manross Marine Lever"

THIS IS AN 8 DAY MARINE LEVER CLOCK IN A ROSEWOOD COTTAGE CLOCK CASE BY ELISHA MANROSS, BRISTOL, CT.  THE BRASS PLAQUE UNDER THE DIAL READS "8 DAY MARINE PATENT 1849".  THE DIAL IS ROUGH AND THE SIGNITURE HAS BEEN TOUCHED-UP, THE MINUTE HAND IS A REPLACEMENT AND THERE IS A CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE CASE THAT HAS BEEN FILLED.

Beautiful Dial

THIS IS A FRENCH MANTEL CLOCK IN A BLACK SLATE CASE, MADE IN FRANCE, CIRCA 1900. THE MOVEMENT IS STAMPED WITH THE INITIALS B & R, THERE IS NO TRADEMARK REFERENCE.

 

THE LARGE SIZE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT IS A RACK AND SNAIL AND STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A GONG.

 

THE WHITE FIRED ENAMEL DIAL APPEARS TO BE HAND PAINTED IN A BLUE MOTIF WITH FLOWERS AND ARTISTIC ARABIC NUMERALS.  THERE ARE 4 BEEHIVE STYLE BRASS FINIALS ON THE TOP 4 CORNERS.

 

THE CASE HAS SOME CHIPPING AND BREAKS.

"Dwarf G.B. 2 Weight"

THIS IS A GERMAN 2 WEIGHT WALL CLOCK MADE BY GUSTAV BECKER IN FREIBURG, GERMANY, THE MOVEMENT IS MARKED WITH GUSTAV BECKER TRADEMARKS(MEDAILLE D’OR) AND SERIAL #142982 WHICH DATES THIS CLOCK 1899-1900.  THE CASE IS MADE OF LINDENWOOD AND WALNUT VENEERS AND IS DWARF SIZE, THERE ARE WOOD BEETLE HOLES ON THE CASE BUT THEY DO NOT APPEAR TO BE ACTIVE.  THE ½ COLUMNS ON THE FRONT DOOR HAVE CARVED CAPS AND BASES.  THE BACK OF THE CASE AND THE FRONT OF THE BOTTOM ARE BLACKED.  THE MATCHING ARCHED CROWN WITH CARVING ON THE TOP AND FINIALS ARE ALL ORIGINAL TO THE CLOCK.

THE 2 PIECE WHITE FIRED ENAMEL DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS; THERE IS NO CHIPS OR CRACKS ON THE DIAL.  THE 8 DAY MOVEMENT IS DRIVEN BY 2 BRASS SHELLED LEAD FILLED WEIGHTS HUNG FROM ENGRAVED PULLEYS.  THE PENDULUM HAS A WOOD ROD AND A LARGE BRASS PENDULUM BOB.   THE CLOCK STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A COILED GONG.

"FMS"

THIS IS A LARGE GERMAN R-A STYLE WALL CLOCK MADE BY FRIEDRICK MAUTHE IN SCHWENNINGEN, GERMANY, CIRCA 1910-1920.  THE CASE IS MADE OF LINDENWOOD SOLIDS AND WALNUT VENEERS.  THE FRONT ½ COLUMNS ON THE DOOR ARE TURNED.  THERE IS A REPLACEMENT CARVED CROWN ON TOP AND THE FINIALS ARE ALSO REPLACEMENTS.    THE DIAL HAS A BRASS EMBOSSED CENTER AND A CELLULOID CHAPTER RING WITH ROMAN NUMERALS AND RED FLEUR DE LIS IN BETWEEN THE NUMERALS.  THE PENDULUM HAS A GRIDIRON ROD WITH A BRASS BOB.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A ROD AND HAS THE FMS TRADEMARK STAMPED ON THE PLATE.

"Hillsdale"

THIS IS THE “HILLSDALE” SHELF CLOCK MADE BY THE WATERBURY CLOCK CO. IN WATERBURY, CT, CIRCA 1905-1915.  THE EMBOSSED CASE IS MADE OF OAK.  THE ORIGINAL PAPER DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS AND IS SOMEWHAT DISTRESSED.  THE GLASS IN THE FRONT DOOR IS PLAIN; IT SHOULD HAVE A PATTERNED GLASS.  THE PENDULUM BOB IS CAST AND PAINTED GOLD.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A COILED GONG.

 "Calendar No. 43"

THIS IS A "CALENDAR NO. 43" PERPETUAL CALENDAR SHELF CLOCK MADE BY THE WATERBURY CLOCK CO. IN WATERBURY, CT, CIRCA 1910-1915.  THE CASE IS MADE OF WALNUT.  THE 8" DIALS ARE PAINTED, THE CLOCK DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS, THE CALENDAR DIAL HAS A DATE RING WITH ARABIC NUMERALS AND WINDOWS FOR THE DAY OF THE AND THE MONTH (DISTRESSED).  THE FRONT GLASS SURROUNDING THE DIALS IS PAINTED BLACK AND GOLD AND HAS BEEN TOUCHED UP. 

THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND 1/2 HOURS ON A COILED GONG.

"Austrain"

THIS IS AN AUSTRIAN SERPENTINE STYLE 2 WEIGHT 8 DAY WALL CLOCK WITH A BUILT-IN CROWN, CIRCA 1860-1870.  THE MOVEMENT IS UNSIGNED.  THE 2 WEIGHTS ARE SUSPENDED FROM ENGRAVED PULLEYS.  THE 2 PIECE WHITE FIRED ENAMEL DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, NO CRACKS OR CHIPS.  THE PENDULUM HAS A WOOD ROD AND A LARGE BRASS BOB, THE BOB HAS SMALL CRACKS ON THE RIGHT SIDE AS SEEN IN THE PICTURE.  THE LEAD FILLED BRASS WEIGHTS APPEAR TO BE REPLACEMENTS.  THIS 8 DAY WEIGHT DRIVEN MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A COILED GONG.  THE CASE AND MOVEMENT COULD POSSIBLY BE A MARRIAGE, BUT EVERYTHING FITS TOGETHER AND LINES UP WELL.

"Hudson 30 Day"

THIS IS THE “HUDSON” 30 DAY WALL TIMEPIECE MADE BY THE SETH THOMAS CLOCK CO. IN THOMASTON, CT, CIRCA 1905-1915.  THE CASE HAS BEEN RECREATED FOR THE CLOCK AS PER THE ORIGINAL DESIGN, MINUS THE INLAY.  THE CASE IS CONSTRUCTED OUT OF MAHOGANY.  THE DIAL IS PAINTED AND HAS ARABIC NUMERALS AND A SECONDS BIT, THE DIAL IS A REPRODUCTION.  THE 30 DAY TIMEPIECE IS SPRINGWOUND WITH 2 WINDING SPRINGS TO RUN FOR 30 DAYS.

THIS IS AN 8 DAY ENGLISH CHAIN FUSEE WALL TIMEPIECE IN A STAR PATTERN MADE BY PRATT IN HAVERFORWEST, ENGLAND, CIRCA 1870’S, THE CARVED CASE IS MADE OF MAHOGANY.  THE DIALWAS REPAINTED SOME TIME AGO, THE HANDS ARE CLUB STYLE.  THE CAST BRASS BEZEL HAS A CONVEX GLASS.

"Willis"

 

THIS IS A CUTE MINI BANJO TIMEPIECE THE “WILLIS” MADE BY THE NEW HAVEN CLOCK CO. IN NEW HAVEN, CT, CIRCA 1925-1935.  THE CASE WAS PAINTED GOLD A LONG TIME AGO. THE DIAL IS FIRED WHITE ENAMEL WITH ARABIC NUMERALS.  THE TABLETS ARE ORIGINAL, THE THROAT IS A GEOMETRIC DESIGN AND THE LOWER TABLET DEPLICTS MONTICELLO.  THE CHIMNEY AND EAGLE ON TOP ARE REPLACEMENTS.  THE 8 DAY JEWELED LEVER MOVEMENT IS A TIMEPIECE.

"Niobe"

THIS IS THE “NIOBE” 2 WEIGHT HANGING WALL CLOCK MADE BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK CO. IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK CIRCA 1900-1910.  THE CASE IS MADE OF OAK AND IS ALL ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MISSING CROWN PIECE AS SEEN IN TRAN DU LYS ANSONIA CLOCKS PG 178.  A TALENTED WOODWORKER SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM RECREATING THIS TOP PIECE.  THERE HAS BEEN POLISHING DONE TO THE DIAL.  THIS IS AN 8 DAY CLOCK THAT STRIKES THE HOURS AND THE ½ HOURS ON A GONG.  THE WEIGHTS AND PENDULUM ARE ALSO ORIGINAL.

"Alabaster"

THIS IS A FRENCH MANTEL CLOCK, CIRCA 1880 IN A WHITE ALABASTER CASE WITH BRASS ACCENTS (THE TWO ROUND BRASS DISCS ON THE FRONT AND THE RECTANGULAR PIECE ALONG THE BOTTOM ARE REPLACEMENTS) AND AN ALABASTER URN ON TOP.  ALL OF THE OTHER BRASS MOUNTINGS ARE ORIGINAL.  THE DIAL IS WHITE FIRED ENAMEL WITH BLUE ROMAN NUMERALS.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT HAS AN OUTSIDE COUNTWHEEL AND STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A BELL.

" Huge Japanese Original Wall Clock"

THIS IS A JAPANESE LARGE SIZE ROUND TOP LONG DROP SCHOOL STYLE WALL CLOCK BY SEIKOSHA, CIRCA 1930’S.  THE ROUND WOOD TOP IS CARVED AND THERE ARE APPLIED CARVINGS SURROUNDING THE LOWER DOOR AND CARVED EARS ON THE SIDES, THERE ARE ALSO SPINDLES ON THE SIDES.  THE PAINTED DIAL HAS ARABIC NUMERALS, A SECONDS BIT AND THE SEIKOSHA TRADEMARK ON THE DIAL.  THE PENDULUM HAS A GRID IRON ROD AND A LARGE BRASS BOB.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS ON A GONG.

THIS IS A SHELF CLOCK “NUNDA” MADE BY THE WATERBURY CLOCK CO. IN WATERBURY, CT, CIRCA 1890-1905.  THE CASE IS MADE OF OAK.  THE PAPER DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS.  THE CAST PENDULUM IS GOLD COLORED AND IS VISIBLE THRU THE GOLD PATTERNED GLASS IN THE FRONT DOOR.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A GONG.  THERE IS A NICE MANUFACTURE’S LABEL ON THE BACK WITH A REPAIR LABEL BELOW- “GEORGE P. MARTIN, WATSONVILLE, CA- CLEANED 11/20/1912 & CLEANED 4/10/15”.  THIS CLOCK IS ALL ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE.

THIS IS AN OLD AMERICAN (INGRAHAM OR NEW HAVEN?) CASED STEEPLE CLOCK WITH A MODERN JAPANESE MOVEMENT.  THE NEW PAINTED DIAL HAS ROMAN NUMERALS AND FLORAL CORNERS.  THE GLASS IN THE FRONT DOOR IS NEW.  THE CAST GOLD COLORED PENDULUM BOB IS VISIBLE THRU THE GLASS IN THE LOWER SECTION OF THE DOOR.  THE TOP SPIRES ARE MISSING FROM THE FINIALS AND THERE IS SOME CHIPPING ON THE VENEER.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS AND ½ HOURS ON A GONG.

Lenzkirch Movement

 

THIS IS A LARGE HANDMADE TAMBOUR CLOCK CASE WITH AN 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND LENZKIRCH MOVEMENT IN IT.  THE DIAL IS SILVERED TWO TONE WITH ENGRAVED ARABIC NUMERALS.  THE MOVEMENT IS PROBABLY FROM A SHORT CASED WALL CLOCK.  THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT IS MARKED “LENZKIRCH-AUG 1 MILLION SERIAL #1108535”, CIRCA 1896-1897.  WELL WORTH THE PRICE FOR THE DIAL AND MOVEMENT ALONE!

Candlestick Clock

 

THIS IS A CANDLESTICK CLOCK.  WHEN A CANDLE IS PUT IN THE CANDLESTICK IT CASTS A SHADOW ON THE TABLET THAT INDICATES THE TIME.  THIS IS A REPRODUCTION OF AN 849 TO 899 A.D. CLOCK.  THIS REPRODUCTION APPEARS TO BE FROM THE 19TH CENTURY.  H- 11" x L- 8"

GUNDORF

FERDINAND GUNDORF OF SAN FRANCISCO, CA AND PORTLAND, OR CIRCA 1890-1920, WAS A DESIGNER, INVENTOR AND BUILDER OF UNUSUAL EXPERIMENTAL ESCAPEMENTS THAT HE ADAPTED AND MOUNTED ON EXISTING CLOCK MOVEMENTS, MAINLY SETH THOMAS #10 MOVEMENTS.  MANY OF THESE WERE VARIATIONS ON THE CHRONOMETER ESCAPEMENT, OR ROTARY (ORBITAL) PENDULUM ESCAPEMENTS.  IT IS NOT KNOWN WHETHER HE MADE ANY COMPLETE MOVEMENTS.

 

THE MOVEMENT SHOWN IN THE DISPLAY CASE HAS AN UNUSUAL DOUBLE PRONGED ESCAPE WHEEL, IT IS ADAPTED TO A WATERBURY 8 DAY DOUBLE SPRING MOVEMENT, WITH AN AUTOMATIC ALARM OF HIS DESIGN.

 

THE SETH THOMAS #10 MOVEMENT IS FITTED WITH A CHRONOMETER ESCAPEMENT VARIATION AND HAS A HELICAL HAIRSPRING.

 

I HAVE SEVERAL GUNDORF MOVEMENTS, SOME EVEN RUNNING, AND COPIES OF SOME GRUNDORF PATENTS.

THIS IS THE “BEAVER” MODEL SHELF CLOCK MADE BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK CO IN BROOKLYN, NY, CIRCA 1884-1900. THE CASE IS BLACK WALNUT. THE DIAL IS A NEW REPRODUCTION PAPER DIAL WITH ROMAN NUMERALS. THE GLASS AND ALL OF THE TRIM IS THE ORIGINAL SILVER. THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT HAS AN HOUR AND ½ HOUR COILED GONG STRIKE. H- 22 ½” x W- 14 ¼” x D-5”

BEAUTIFUL WOODEN WORKS

PILLAR & SCROLL

THIS IS AN AMERICAN MAHOGANY CASED PILLAR AND SCROLL SHELF CLOCK, THE CASED WAS MADE BY ELISHA NEAL OF NEW HARTFORD, CT.CIRCA 1829-1832. THE 30 HOUR WOODEN WORKS MOVEMENT WAS INVENTED BY ELI TERRY AND MADE BY SAMUEL TERRY. THE TABLET IN THE LOWER DOOR APPEARS TO BE AN OLD REPLACEMENT AND DEPLICTS MONTICELLO. THE WOOD DIAL IS PAINTED AND HAS ARABIC NUMERALS AND HAS BEAUTIFUL GILT SCROLL WORK. THE 30 HOUR WOODEN WORKS MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS ON A BELL. THE 3 BRASS FINIALS ON THE SCROLL MAY NOT BE ORIGINALS, BUT ARE OLD AND THE PROPER STYLE. THERE IS AN EXCELLENT INSIDE LABEL PRINTED BY H. ADAMS, LITCHFIELD, CONN, CIRCA 1830’S. JUST PLUG IT IN

THIS IS AN ART DECO STYLE MANTEL CLOCK BY SETH THOMAS, THOMASTON, CT. THE CASE IS BOOK MATCHED WALNUT VENEER AND HAS A SMALL DRAWER IN THE FRONT. THE DIAL IS SQUARE, SILVERED AND HAS ARABIC NUMERALS. THE ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN CLOCK STRIKES THE HOURS AND THE 1/ HOURS ON A COILED GONG. CIRCA 1935-1940.

THIS IS A BLACK FOREST OCTAGON DIAL 30 HOUR TIME AND STRIKE WEIGHT DRIVEN WALL CLOCK WITH WOOD PLATES AND BRASS GEARS. THE OCTAGON TOP HAS BRASS AND MOTHER OF PEAR INLAY. THE DIAL IS PAINTED WOOD WITH ROMAN NUMERALS. CIRCA 1870-1890. OCTAGON- 13 ½” x D- 6 ½”

NOW, THAT'S CHICAGO

THIS IS A “CHICAGO” SHELF CLOCK FROM THE “CITY SERIES” MADE BY THE SETH THOMAS CLOCK CO. IN THOMASTON, CT, CIRCA 1880-1890. THE CASE IS A BIT ROUGH WITH BITS OF VENEER MISSING HERE AND THERE. THE COLUMNS ARE GILT AND ARE AS FOUND. THE TRIANGLES ON THE DOOR ARE BRASS. THE ORIGINAL DIAL HAS BEEN REPAINTED BY THE DIAL HOUSE. THE BOTTOM GLASS IS AN OLD REPLACEMENT. THE 8 DAY SPRINGWOUND MOVEMENT STRIKES THE HOURS ON A COILED GONG. COMPLETE WITH KEY AND PENDULUM. H- 18” x W- 10 ¼” x D- 4 ½”

KIRK'S PATENT MOVEMENT

THIS IS A BEVELED CASE SHELF CLOCK WITH A LOOKING GLASS BY E. C. BREWSTER IN BRISTOL, CT, IN A MAHOGANY VENEERED CASE. THE 30 HOUR KIRK'S PATENT MOVEMENT HAS A FULL CAST IRON BACK PLATE AND BRASS MAINSPRINGS. THE LABEL IS BY ELIHU GEER, JOB & CARD PRINTER, 26 ½ STATE STREET, HARTFORD, CT. THE ORIGINAL MIRROR IS BROKEN AND HAS BEEN TAPED BACK TOGETHER. THE DIAL HAS BEEN REPAINTED. THERE IS SOME VENEER MISSING ON THE BOTTOM OF BOTH SIDES OF THE CASE. CIRCA 1840. H- 24" X W- 13" X D- 4 ½”

NEW HAMPSHIRE WOODEN WORKS

THIS IS A NEW HAMPSHIRE TALL CASE CLOCK WITH 30 HOUR WOODEN WORKS THAT STRIKES THE HOURS ON A BELL. THE CASE IS RUSTIC AND POSSIBLY NOT ORIGINAL TO THE MOVEMENT. THE WOODEN DIAL IS PAINTED AND SIGNED “ROBINSON PERKINS 15 JAFFREY, NEW HAMPSHIRE. CIRCA 1800. H.- 81” X W,- 18 ¼” X D.- 16 ½”

30 hour Wooden Works

 

 

THIS IS A 30 HOUR WOODEN WORKS LOOKING GLASS SHELF CLOCK WITH ALARM (MISSING THE CENTER DISC), BY WILLIAMS, ORTEN, PRESTON’S & CO., FARMINGTON, CONN, CIRCA 1837-1843. THE MOVEMENT IS SOUND, THE MIRROR AND THE UPPER GLASS ARE OLD, THE LABEL IS GOOD (JOSEPH HURLBUST PRINTER, HARTFORD). THE DIAL IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS WAS A STENCILED COLUMN AND SPLAT CASE BUT THE STENCILING IS GONE. H.- 32” x W.- 16 ½” x D.- 5”
